- Correspondence: MD received Branch Handbook for Press and Publicity Officer (a little late as he was elected as “Press Officer” at the AGM in June to dovetail with his role as Postal Action Network rep.
- Aberystwyth Real Ale Festival and Local Pubs Week: Much discussion took place but as Kathy was absent and had not sent any proofs Branch couldn’t decide on what to print etc.
Time is now running short. RJ will ensure the event goes in What’s Brewing under diary.
RJ will be visiting pubs in next 2 weeks to discuss beer lists – he will let the pubs know we will be having a People’s Pint Beer of the Festival and a quiz in participating pubs.
CG to see if he can get any promotional material from any of the breweries for a prize for the quiz so we can acknowledge their support on the quiz sheets.
LG & AR to organise quiz for Real Ale Trail (suggest beery theme for at least one round and a deciding question that’s rather obscure and can’t be googled?) SD to organise collection boxes for each pub.
SD will see if HQ will send us goodie bags and membership holders and forms etc for the participating pubs.
SD & MD to contact CG & KG to see what has been done and decide who will do what

Presentation of Regional Pub of the Year certificate to the Ship and Castle Aberystwyth will be Sat 29th January around 4pm (remember the pub opens at 2pm so plenty of time to celebrate beforehand). RJ will be informing local press.
St David’s Day Quiz – 1st March is Pool League night in Ship & Castle so White Lion Talybont suggested. SD to check if Niki happy for us to have a St David’s day Quiz. If this is OK SD to sort out a “Welsh” Quiz for LG to hand out on the day. 7:45 for 8pm start.
Possible surveying trip by public transport to Talbot, Tregaron (as it has changed hands) and the Royal Oak Llanfarian for the same reason. Date suggested was Saturday 14th May.
- Website news. Master Class for Website Editing at Varsity Aber Sunday 6th Feb
- Our nominations for Champion Beer of Wales: nominations were forwarded for each category.
- Pub of the year presentation: see socials above
- Item became Good Beer Guide Selection: Much discussion took place and 20 forms were given out to various members to return to the next meeting on 19th February at White Lion Talybont for final selection. We have an allocation of 12 (officially 2 for Mid Wales to cover Mach etc and 10 West Wales to cover the rest of the county). Beer Quality scores were used as a “long list” from which we chose the 20 to survey.
- Pub Brewery and Beer News: Nag’s Head Aber – Landlady leaving. We need to decide at the next meeting if the Branch wants to contact HQ regarding a Good Beer Guide (GBG) deletion. AJ
The White at Mach is charging £3:15 / pint for a pint of the ordinary. But landlord has negotiated being able to sell a barrel at £2:60 which is usually on at weekend so look out for that. PA
Ian in Ship & Castle has swapped Leffe for Erdinger. AJ
- Comments on CAMRA Welsh Charter : Branch felt that the idea behind the charter was commendable.
- Pub of the Year Nominations: There had been no nominations received and the closing date was 31st Dec 10. Branch decided to keep nominations open until 19th Feb. Three nominations were received at the meeting. The Ship & Castle was nominated by MG, The Harbourmaster at Aberaeron by SD and the White Lion Talybont by PA. Any further nominations to go to RJ before the next meeting.
As nominators shouldn’t be judges RJ & AJ (possibly AR) to form Judging Panel.
- Next Meeting: Saturday 19th February White Lion Talybont 2:15pm
AOB : National Structure of CAMRA - Welsh Region. Update: discussing the issue today – some reservations but generally the feeling is more supportive than not. Cheshire and Mersyeside will be left but they would have more branches than West Pennines region so they wouldn’t be the smallest. They could amalgamate if they wish.
Membership Secretary to go on the agenda for next time.
Meeting closed at 4:45pm
